Item Description

A 3.1 x 2.3 x 1.7 epidote crystal with a striking sharp chisel termination is aesthetically set in the side of the pink calcite matrix on this fine OLD combination rarity from the historic and extinct iron mines at Arendal. The secondary lighter epidote coating on the termination face adds pizzazz. Sections and impressions of other epidotes in the calcite add character. Modest pink calcie fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4108 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the early-mid 1960s. Previously in the E. Lindemann Collection of Hamburg and has an even older label on the bottom of piece. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A fine and showy old classic from this locale.
