Item Description

Rich, showy, old-time and unusual two-sided combination material from this well-known extinct limestone quarry. The front is richly covered with intergrown pretty lilac-colored fluorite cubes with darker edge phantoms and nicely accented with oxide-coated barite blades. All of the cubes have etched faces on this side. The smaller cubes on the back have glassy unetched faces. Interesting chemistry here! Purple fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1353 and acquired from Scott Williams in the 1950s. Previously in the Falkenhorst Collection, with label, and purchased in Freudenstadt in August, 1918. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare, old-time fluorite and barite from this locale.
