Item Description

Bright brassy modified pyritohedrons have pseudomorphed an impressive and sculptural cluster of large marcasite crystal plates on this very fine two-sided specimen from the famous Nanisivik Iron Mine, above the Arctic Circle, on Baffin Island, Canada. This mine closed in 2002. The striking large central dominating compound crystal is 6.0 cm. The sphalerite at the base of the piece is an uncommon and desirable association. The interior is pristine and the noted periphery wear is certainly acceptable in the context of this showy piece. Choice combination material from the Art Soregaroli Collection.
