Item Description

Sharp, well-formed quartz crystals, such as this, are VERY RARE from any locale in Durango State, Mexico, including famed Mina Ojuela and Cerro de Mercado. A dramatic matrix cluster of sharp glassy, translucent, limonite-included quartz crystals have fantastic selective limonite overgrowths! The striking large crystal is 4.7 cm. We believe the piece is from the famed Cerro de Mercado iron mine, due to the limonitic matrix quartz association. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8487 and acquired from Ron Bentley at Tucson in 1978. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). RARE, very showy, perhaps unique Durango quartz.
