Description:Outstanding galena specimens are well-known from this old Pb-Zn district, but specimens are seldom on the market. A superb cluster of sharp, brilliant lustre, metallic-gray cuboctahedrons, to 3.2 cm, are aethetically set on the sculptural matrix. Interestingly, the backs of the crystals and some of the smaller crystals in the front have a coating of an unknown green material, perhaps chlorite. This excellent piece is from a very obscure mine in the Bytom District. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4420 and acquired from Al McGuinness in the mid-1960s. Comes with a German label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). This historic and exceptional old-timer dates to prior to World War I, when Upper Silesia was part of Germany.
