Item Description

The famous Berg Aukas Zn-Pb-V mine, discovered in 1913 and worked until 1978, easily produced the world's finest descloizite specimen. It also produced world-class smithsonite specimens. Most descloizite specimens from here are lustrous black, gray or dark brown clusters of spear-shaped crystals. This exceptional and very aesthetic two-sided crust is composed lustrous, translucent rich orange-red leaves with serrated edges. The compound crystals reach about 2.3 cm and the crystals GLOW, when backlit. An outstanding and desirable two-sided example, nearly pristine with only trivil periphery wear. The attachment is at the base. From the Harkness Collection. Specimens with this rich color, lustrous and translucence are uncommon and desirable.
