Item Description

Kyanite is VERY RARE from the famous old gold mines at Berezovsk, Type Locality for crocoite. MINDAT does not list the species for the locale. Jackstraw diverging clusters of classic, translucent and lustrous, cornflower-blue kyanite blades, to 8.0 cm, embedded in oxide-tinted quartz compose this sculptural old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 8172 and acquired from the Cisneros' in the Spring of 1977. Formely in the Hermann Kraft Collection, with a 1933 date on his label. The perforated label is possibly from the Dr. Bernhard Klose Collection and has a 1971 date. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Possibly from Borisovskie Sopki, Plast, Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia.
