Item Description

A beautiful old time Calcite specimen from this historic Bisbee District in Arizona. This piece is a bit different from most Bisbee Calcites as the crystals have more of a "smoky" color, which is not common in my experience. Sharp, well-formed, somewhat resinous modified rhombic crystals of Calcite measuring up to 2.0 cm on matrix make this near full cabinet sized specimen a very desirable and eye-catching piece. Hard to photograph, but very attractive in person. The crystals are actually fairly gemmy when backlit. Most of the crystals are damage free, with only a few imperfections here and there, and obviously it's not complete around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1077) with a label from The Bradleys in Los Angeles. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
