Item Description

Fantastic and classic old-time calcite from the early heydays of specimens coming from the famous mines at Santa Eulalia. A stunning parallel-growth cluster of sharp doubly terminated dogtooth calcite crystals exhibits classic Santa Eulalia forms. A water-clear, gem crystal at end is next to striking hematite-included brick-red crystals with two hematite overgrowth layers, first lustrous dark gray and then nubby, matte hematite. The spherules on the gray overgrowths add real pizzazz. The untinted calcite fluoresces bright pink. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2124 and acquired from Burminco in January, 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Certainly a striking, most unusual and uncommon old-time example of this varietal.
