Item Description

Scintillating, translucent, orange-brown vanadinite barrels, to 2 mm, are festooned on both of the sculptural thumbnails on the gossan matrix. Mineral specimens of any species are rare from this former Pb-Zn-Ag-Cu-Zn mine worked intermittently from 1908 to the early 1950s. Listed as pyromorphite on Kay Robertson's labels # 6082 a & b, these are vanadinites. She acquired these as a gift from Jean Hamel in late 1969 or early 1970. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Rare and choice California vanadinite.
