Item Description

A RARE, sculptural and outstanding combination miniature from this well-known Swiss Alpine railway tunnel. The dramatic looking, shimmering, curved, foliated mica schist hosts: a rare 3 mm, corroded, tabular, hexagonal pyrrhotite crystal; striking water-clear quartz crystals to 1.5 cm; a 9 mm embedded rutile needle; glassy albite and adularia crystals along the crest; and a few scattered tan ankerite rhombs. The one-track tunnel is 9.5 miles (15.4 km) long and opened in 1982. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 9585 and acquired in Zurich in May, 1982, the year the tunnel opened! First come first dibs! Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). A very aesthetic, rare and superb combination. Specimens from the tunnel are not that common and are very seldom on the market.
