Item Description

Rich deep purple, moderately lustrous, sharp fluorite octahedrons, to 1.0 cm, are richly clustered in the large plate of jackstraw milky quartz crystals. This sculptural specimen of well-known distinctive fluorites is from the limited early 1990s finds at Akchatau. No more have been found and the mine is abandoned. Scattered about are tiny white bertrandite plates, a typical accessory from the find. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12336 and acquired in the 1990s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Specimens are highly prized and are seldom on the market today.
