Large Pyrite w/ Calcite (Dr. B. Phillips Coll.)

Item Description

An impressive and very uncommon large pyrite plate from this well-known Viburnum Trend mine. The Buick is well-known for unusual and rare 4-sided pyrite "bars". Densely intergrown, lustrous, brassy pyritohedrons cover the silicified limestone matrix. A bonus on the bottom edge is the 3.7 cm, glassy, terminated, amber calcite crystal. Rare large crystallized pyrite from this noted locale from the Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection. 6.8 pounds or 3.1 kilos mass.
