Item Description

Calcite is RARE from this historic old mine, first worked for galena and then in the late 1800s and early 1900s for Barium minerals, producing outstanding witherite and barite specimens (MINDAT). This is a striking intergrown cluster of large, translucent, tan, tabular calcite rhombs with satin luster faces. The impresssive crystal on the end is 6.2 cm. Complete all-around and pristine, with multiple display views. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 969 and acquired from Scott Williams in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). Pretty pink fluorescence. RARE and excellent calcite from this mine.
