Item Description

RARE powder-blue fluorite from this well-known urban Los Angeles locale. Most fluorites recovered were green. Stepped-growth cubes, to 1.1 cm, are gemmy to translucent, have satin luster faces and are aesthetically clustered on the matrix. These fluorites were collected by the Gochenour brothers in the early 1990s, and are seldom available even within California. The vein was very small, and hard to work. It was tucked into a now-inaccessible canyon in a suburban development within the greater Los Angeles area, and can be considered a mineral from a very urban locale. Purple fluorescence. In good shape, overall. The one dinged cube in the center is noted, but has minimal impact to the overall appearance of this fine blue rarity. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 12354 and acquired from the Gochenours in 1995 at the Costa Mesa Show. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). An excellent, rare blue color California fluorite and a MUST for the locality or species collector.
