Item Description

A fairly thick, rich gem vein mass of stark green colored Chrysoprase with cream colored Chalcedony in matrix from this famous nickel-bearing locality in Poland. Chrysoprase gets its color from nickel, as it's essentially a nickel-bearing Quartz or more specifically a nickel-bearing Chalcedony. When backlit, you can see the color really glows internally, and this is what I would consider to be "gem grade" Chrysoprase. This locality was mined since the Middle Ages for Chrysoprase and eventually closed down around 1980. This piece is a great old example of these old classic Chrysoprase specimens, and it's certainly worth adding to any Quartz collection or a collection of European classics.
