Item Description

A classic and hard to find specimen featuring dozens of sharp, well-formed, lustrous crystal "sprays" of clove-brown colored Axinite-(Fe) from the Toroku mine in Japan. The largest crystal group measures 2.1 cm long. These specimens are rarely seen in large groups on matrix like this, and certainly this is OLD material, easily dating back many decades. For the most part, the piece is in good shape, but some of the crystals are unfortunatley bruised. I've never seen a completely pristine example of this material, but to be fair, we've only handeld a few of them over the years. If you collect Japanese minerals, don't miss out on this attractive and rare specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5175). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
