Item Description

Collophane is the RARE variety of Carbonate-rich Apatite. It is a name used for the massive, cryptocrystalline or colloidal (amorphous) varieties (MINDAT). This is a stunning and sculptural cluster of intergrown globules and stalks dramatically and artistically accented with sprays of pyrolusite dendrites. See the MINDAT discussion at https://www.mindat.org/forum.php?read,7,166862,211404#msg-211404 on this unique looking apatite material. VERY RARE and OLD style material from this obscure small mine located about 20 km from the famed Mina Ojuela. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2268 and acquired from Scott Williams in 1962. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A MUST for the locality or species collector!
