Item Description

Rare, rich and colorful two-sided barite and malachite from these classic old barite mines, that operated mostly in the 19th century. A large vug in the front of the sculptural layered matrix plate is festooned with scintillating tiny, gemmy, colorless barite blades, that cover many of the contrasting tiny richly sprinkled malachite botryoids. The crystal-lined vug continues under the overhang, adding even more character. The back has a nice surprise, with the 3.5 cm vug filled with oxide-tinted barite blades and seams of malachite. Specimens of this richness and combination quality are rare and are seldom on the market. Choice, undoubtedly old-time material from the David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named.
