Spinel is another gem that comes in a great range of colors. Most people are familiar with the Ruby Spinels, but a large percentage of Spinels out there are not red. This is a beautiful purple Spinel from Sri Lanka, not the typical Myanmar (Burmese) material. It is an attractive gem with a wonderful vibrancy when viewed in the sunlight. The gem is VVS in clarity and has a traditional "Pear Brilliant" cut. This is certainly a good quality Spinel, with a bright and lively color. Keep in mind that fine quality gem Spinels are only found in a few places in the world, and stones like this are not common on the market outside of a select few localities. It should also be noted that the price of Spinels worldwide is going UP, as I've seen some RED Spinel stones that are retailing for up to $4,000 per carat and above. The high end retail price on this gem is $269.50.
