Item Description

A classic Arizona locality, the Old Yuma Mine near Tucson is known for its quality Vanadinites and Wulfenites. On this old-timer, you have hundreds of mm-size, hexagonal crystals of orange Vanadinite covering the outside of a Calcite seam. Some of the Calcite crystals reach nearly 1 cm, and the luster of the Vanadinites is so brilliant that the surface scintillates, creating a dazzling aesthetic. The seam of Calcites creates a geometry for ths small cab that I really have not seen before, and I find it remarkable that it has survived intact. As you might imagine, this piece is fantastic under magnification. #629 in Kay's collection, this had to be from early mining during the first half of the 20th century.
