Item Description

I was told that this specimen was mined about 20 years ago at the famous Uchucchacua Mine. Upon close inspection, one can easily see some notably sharp, highly lustrous, brilliant silvery colored crystals of the famous "ruby silver", Proustite sitting in a vug with associated pink Rhodochrosite crystals. The Proustite earns it "ruby silver" moniker as it shows an electric blood red color inside when strongly backlit. The combination of Rhodochrosite with Proustite is exceptionally rare in my experience, and if you collect Rhodochrosites, sulfides / sulfosalts, Peruvian minerals or interesting combinations, do not miss out on this one! Excellent crystallization, and fun to view up close, especially because this is a sulfide species that you can see through! The largest Proustite crystal measures 4 mm, and the largest Rhodochrosite measures about 2+ mm. No real damage to speak of, and valued in our inventory at $950. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X85) with a few labels from previous dealers.
