Item Description

From the historic discovery of 2014, the Shattuckite specimens from this discovery redefined the species in terms of size, color and quality. Some of the richest blue hues for the species were seen in combination with amazingly large display pieces featuring big radial groups free of matrix. Shattuckite is a rare copper silicate, and often seen in small quantities in association with other species. The pieces from Tantara are amazingly devoid of associations, as the pocket was essentially a big vug of pure Shattuckite. Apparently these specimens match up with some old pieces in the museum of Brussels that were found about 80 years ago, and according to a good friend close to the source, they will never be found again as the area is mined out. This particular features a wonderful coverage of beautiful blue, radiating, velvety Shattuckite free of matrix. It should be noted that these specimens are NOT the well-known specimens from Namibia, a distinct difference. For those interested, this material was actually and confirmed at the University of Arizona as Shattuckite - although it most likely does contain a small amount of Plancheite and possibly Ajoite. If you like rare minerals, copper species or Congolese minerals, do not miss out on this really eye-catching and colorful specimens. It is quite rare that one encounter larger display specimens of this hard to find species, especially with such attractive form. Valued at $950 in the inventory.
