The world's finest examples of Sturmanite come from South Africa, and this piece is a wonderful thumbanil example of the species. This specimen features stout, sharp, golden-brown to yellow color hexagonal crystals with sharp faces and excellent luster. The piece certainly has a bit of a bi-color appearance in refelected light, but when it's backlit, it glows with a warm golden-yellow hue. The piece is complete on the display side, but contacted on the back. I love the reentrant faces that give the piece such defined form and a lovely three-dimensional quality. These pieces are becoming more and more difficult to find, especially in attractive, well crystallized specimens such as this. Ex Charlie Key personal collection.
