Item Description

There are lots of species to come out of China in the last 20+ years, but I would argue that the Spessartines from Wushan are among the most iconic, eye-catching and highly displayable specimens we've seen. These are some of the most impressive Spessartines out there, and they are truly classics along with being some of the most desirable Garnets from any locality out there. I love this specimen for the simple fact that it features some notably large crystal for the locality. Most Spessartines from Wushan are in the 3-4 mm range, but the largest crystal on this piece measures a full 1.0 cm across, and really makes the piece stand out from so many others that have come out. This wonderful cabinet piece features nearly a full coverage of sharp, lustrous, rich orange or red-orange colored, trapezohedral crystals of Spessartine which are sitting on a layer of cream colored Microcline with a few translucent soft Smoky Quartz prisms. Sometimes the Spessartine crystals from this locality can be dull or pitted, but the crystal on this piece are smooth and bright! The piece is a in very good condition overall, with only a few small spots where the Spessartines were either contacted or fell off exposing the underlying matrix. Very little of this material is available these days, so if you want a good display specimen of these well-known Garnets, don't miss out on this one. I don't have to tell you that it's quite rare to find such big showy display specimens of gemmy orange Spessartine from any locality these days. Valued at $1,500 in the inventory.
