Item Description

From a recent discovery (January 2019) at this new mine in San Luis Potosi, here we have a really interesting and impressive Hyalite Opal. These specimens are being mined by a friend of ours who has been working for the past few years to collect these attractive specimens. This piece what some are calling a "crystallized gas bubble" of Hyalite, though we're not entirely sure how they formed. The specimen is egg-shaped, but still hollow in the middle, similar to a geode, but it didn't need to be cracked open. The piece hosts gemmy to translucent colorless / white spherical groups or "balls" of Hyalite covering the interior with a bit of attached Rhyolite on the back. Hyalite are known for being brilliantly fluorescent, and this piece shows a fantastic green hue when exposed to SW UV light. For reference, this specimen is from the same mine that produced the new and unique specimens of "Blood Vessel Opal" that have come out over the last few years. These specimens are very limited on the market, and certainly worth picking up for anybody who collects Mexican minerals, worldwide Opals or fluorescent minerals. Weight on the specimen is 747 grams. Don't miss out onf this beautiful eye-catching display specimen of this well-known Opal variety. It should be noted that the term "Hyalite" Opal is not longer avlid, and now the material is called Opal-AN. Priced at $1,850 in the inventory.
