Copper pseudomorph after Azurite (''Copper Rose'') (rare)

A beautiful big "Copper Rose" specimen from this famous locality in New Mexico. This might be the only locality where a native element replaces a secondary carbonate derived originally from the same element (Copper to Azurite back to Copper). The first thing that comes to mind when I look at this specimen is its wonderful patina. The bladed crystals that once were Azurite are very discernible. The oxidation color of green (Malachite?) helps bring all of the facets of this specimen into focus. These complete floaters are quite rare today, and many of these fine pseudos were collected by George English and A.E. Foote in the 1890's and were sold to Eastern collectors and also to European collectors. These pieces are, to my knowledge, unique in their aspect, form, and size compared to other any other Azurite pseudomorphs. This is a BIG one for the locality, and fine quality in terms of form and sharpness. Valued at $2,500.
