Item Description

Arguably, the finest crystallized Rhodochrosites from South America are those from the famous Uchucchacua Mine in Peru. The combination of the fiery color of the crystals and excellent gemminess with that classic scalenohedral form make them incredibly desirable. Here we have a very attractive small cabinet piece featuring a full coverage of sharp, well-formed, lustrous, gemmy, rich orange-red colored modified scalenohedral crystals measuring up to 1.6 cm long with a bit of associated Quartz sitting on matrix. The Rhodos are in excellent condition on the center of the specimen, and the only real damage I can see is along the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. Looking closely, I could even see a few doubly-terminated Rhodo crystal on the specimen. A very attractive and fine quality example of this classic material from Peru. Valued in the inventory at $3,000. From the worldwide Rhodochrosite collection of Dr. William S. Logan (Specimen #X14).
