Item Description

Mt. Mica Tourmalines are famous for their form, as well as the unique colors that you sometimes find in these crystals. The 'rough' here is a striated, doubly-terminated, and gemmy 3.8 cm Elbaite that used to be in the renowned collection of Bill Pinch. The luster is good, with a touch of silkiness that slightly obscures the true gemminess of the crystal. The lesser of the terminations has a few dings, but overall the crystal is a good, representative Maine Tourmaline of a rare old style from the turn of the 1900s. The other rock star here is the outstanding, 2.12 ct cut stone. The electric teal-blue color of the faceted Elbaite is the most unique and sought-after color among the Maine Tourmalines, and the stone itself is valued at $2,000. This is a terrific rough & cut set from an important and historic US locality. From the collection of Bill Pinch, with his label, and valued $4000 to me in a long-ago exchange, as a set. Rare!
