Item Description

A classic Sicilian Aragonite and Sulphur combination, this piece is exceptionally large and in very good condition. FOR THIS SIZE, IT IS IN REMARKABLE PRESERVATION! These came out in the early 1900s or late 1800s, I have been told. The main cluster of Sulphur crystals sits dead center, and is 4.5 cm across. The pseudohexagonal Aragonites are lustrous, very translucent, and twinned. You can see evidence of this twinning in the growth pattern on the terminations. The largest of the Aragonites is 2.7 cm across, and of course they have the outstanding pink fluorescence you would expect. This is a choice Aragonite from historic Agrigento, and it is in great shape overall. You just don 't see these on the market anymore, especially in such fine display specimens. valued $2500-plus
