Spinel (ex Irv Brown Collection)

This piece came with a label that simply said "Spinel, California". With that said, I think the only part of the state where black "Pleonaste" Spinel is found is in Riverside County. This piece is a nice toenail sized group featuring sharp, lustrous, opaque, jet-black modified Spinel crystals measuring up to 1.6 cm on minor matrix. Most of the crystals are in good shape, though they have a strange surface "etching" where they almost look textured. An odd piece that would make a nice esoteric addition to your California collection. From the worldwide thumbnail / miniature collection of Irv Brown.
