Item Description

The Chalcopyrite specimens from Chimney Rock are unusual for the species because they formed in botryoidal groups. They resemble the old "blister ore" specimens from England. This is confirmed Chalcopyrite, not Pyrite or Marcasite. This piece is a rarely seen un-cleaned specimen of Chalcopyrite as it still has surface oxidation / iridescence. You don't see these on the market anymore, and it could be cleaned up to reveal the beautiful golden color underneath. The largest "ball" measures 3 mm across. From the worldwide collection of noted Idaho collector Geary Murdock. Among other accomplishments, Geary was responsible for discovering some of the finest gem grade deep blue Aquamarine crystals in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho - which remain arguably the finest Aquamarines from any North American locality. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/36634006/geary-jack-murdock
