Item Description

A classic specimen of the Amphibole species Arfvedsonite from the famous locality at Mount Malosa. This piece is especially fine quality and AESTHETIC compared to most I've seen from this area. A 2.2 cm, predominant, well-formed, sharp, virtreous, jet black prismatic monoclinic crystal is flaring out of Orthoclase matrix with a few accenting crystals of Arfvedsonite and minor Smoky Quartz. Great shape all around, as the main crystal is undamaged. A very showy specimen of this attractive material. The Orthoclase even shows a great fluorescence under UV light. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1888). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
