Item Description

The Jeffrey Mine has produced some of the most distinctive and magnificent quality Garnet crystals extant. These "Cinnamon" Grossulars from Jeffrey are known for their unique orange color, gemminess, top luster and superb "textbook" form. This specimen features fine quality, sharp, lustrous, orange color, gemmy, striated dodecahedral / trapezohedral crystals of Grossular which measure up to 7 mm with prismatic light green Diopside on matrix. Valued at $1000 and considering that this material is no longer being found (the Jeffrey Mine is now completely defunct and will not produce these specimens again), the value will continue to increase for these specimens. A wonderful display specimen of this Canadian classic. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #234) with accompanying labels from Italian collectors A. Citran and A. Pedrotti. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
