Item Description

A trio of sharp, lustrous, GEM QUALITY, tabular, well-formed soft pink Morganite crystals from the famous locality at Paprok are associated with a slightly smoky Quartz sitting on a bed of white Albite. Typically, Morganite is not found in sharp, euhedral crystals, and is truly only known in fine specimens from a handful of world localities. The Afghani pieces are among the finest in the world. The crystals on this specimen measure up to 2.0 cm, and are superb quality, with only the tiniest of superficial imperfections. They show the typical tabular habit for this pink variety of Beryl. They have excellent luster on every both the prism and the pinacoid, with very well-defined faces. The Quartz crystal upon close inspection has tiny inclusions of blue-green Tourmalines which make for a good touch. No repairs, and very showy! A worthwhile small cabinet-sized display specimen of this well-known material. Valued at $2500. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #345). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
