Prehnite (unusual "fingers") viewBack to SPECIAL POST TUCSON LARGE CABINET MINERAL SPECIMEN LIQUIDATION AUCTION - Ends Thursday, February 22, 2018

Balochistan (Baluchistan), Pakistan
  • Starting Time:2/15/2018 07:00:00 PM(CST)
  • Ending Time:2/22/2018 07:00:00 PM(CST)
  • Time Left:Auction Is Closed

  • Size Description:17.2 x 14.3 x 6.7 cm

Description:These are some of the most unusual Prehnites I have seen from any locality. At first glance, one might think that these are "casts" or epimorphs after another species, as Prehnite has been known to do, but upon close inspection you can see that these are completely solid inside, and are basically Prehnite stalactites or non-epimorphic "fingers". The largest "finger" measures 4.1 cm long. Some of them are broken and show a radial growth pattern in the center, but I don't think they have replaced another mineral. Really strange for the species. I have only seen a handful of these specimens on the market, and nothing new for several years. This specimen has only minimal damage, compared to many I have seen from the locality. It is one of the most impressive pieces I've seen in terms of size and overall quality. Priced at $1,400.
