Gold (crystallized leaf)

From an old discovery at the Piolho Claim in far northwestern Brazil, here we have a beautifully crystallized thumbnail specimen of Native Gold. The piece looks beautiful up close as it features "leaf"-like forms wth octahedral faces, along with attractive striations and what I believe are modified dodecahedra. The piece has a gorgeous bright metallic color and is actually crytallized on both sides. I spent a good deal of time looking at this piece with a loupe, and we photographed it with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. The piece is small, weighing in at 1.25 grams, but it's a fine specimen of crystallized gold from a discovery in the 1970s that yielded a small number of specimens that we recently acquired from an old East Coast collection.
