Item Description
Altaite is not listed in MINDAT from the famous mines of Guanajuato. The blocky crystals, to 5 mm, in the 3.0 vug are acanthite (some with an iridescent coating) and the iridescent micro-crystals appear to be polybasite? This is rich silver ore in the quartz-rich matrix, as there are more pods of silver sulfosalts on the back of the piece. Ex Giancarlo Fiorvanti Collection and purchased from the Barstow Collection in 1974.
