Item Description

Here we have a wonderful association specimen of Ajoite with Shattuckite, two rare copper silicate minerals from the New Cornelia Mine in Ajo, Arizona, the type locality for both minerals. Ajoite was discovered in 1958 and first described from the New Cornelia. Specimens of Ajoite with Shattuckite are rarely seen on the market from this classic old locality. Most people are probably familiar with Ajoite as inclusions in Quartz from the Messina Mine in South Africa, but actual specimens from Ajo are much rarer and more desirable for some collectors. This piece features blue-green colored Ajoite associated with deep royal blue Shattuckite on matrix. While the piece is not crystallized, it's a RICH sample, solid throughout. A wonderful rarity for any fan of secondary copper minerals, Arizona specimens or minerals from the type locality.
