Item Description

Alexandrite is the color-changing variety of Chrysoberyl, and is one of the most valuable and sought after colored stones out the. The very first Alexandrite crystals and gems came from Russia, and are valuable collectors stones today. The term "Alexandrite-type" color change is often used when a stone changes from a warmer hue i.e., pink to a cooler hue i.e., green or blue when expose to different temperature light sources i.e., indoor lighting and sunlight. This color change is extremely rare and is only exhibited in a few gems around the world. Fine quality stones are only found in a few places in the world in any real quantity, so it's always in demand and commands a high price on the market. The About 30 years ago, there was a discovery of some fine quality gem Alexandrite from the Girdlestone Farm in Zimbabwe. Here we have a "Round Brilliant" cut stone that came out of an old stash of gems from a recent collection acquisition. The gem is moderately included (it looks better in person than the photo indicates), and exhibits a very color change as it shift from a blue-green hue in sunlight to a silvery-purple color in indoor lighting. Honestly the stone shows different colors in various temperature light sources, so it may not appear exactly the same in person as they do presented here.
