Item Description

Alexandrite is one of the most valuable and sought after colored stones out the. These gems are a variety of Chrysoberyl which changes colors when viewed in different temperature lighting. Fine quality stones are only found in a few places in the world in any real quantity, so it's always in demand and commands a high price on the market. The very first Alexandrite crystals and gems came from Russia, and are valuable collectors stones today. The term "Alexandrite-type" color change is often used when a stone changes from a warmer hue i.e., pink to a cooler hue i.e., green or blue when expose to different light sources i.e., indoor lighting and sunlight. This color change is extremely rare and is only exhibited in a few gems around the world. About 30 years ago, there was a discovery of some fine quality gem Alexandrite from the Girdlestone Farm in Zimbabwe. Here we have a 3 stone set of "Round Brilliant" cut stones that came out of an old stash of gems from a recent collection acquisition. These gems range from slightly included to moderately included (they look better in person than the photo indicates), and exhibit a very slight color change as they shift from a dark green in sunlight to a greenish-silver color in indoor lighting. Honestly the stones show different colors in various temperature light sources, so they may not appear exactly the same in person as they do presented here. A 3 stone set like this is certainly a worthwhile pickup for the starting bid.
