Item Description

A classic example of the famous red Almandine Garnets from the world-renowned Zilltertal in Austria. Robust, deep redddish colored dodecahedra of Almandine measure up to 2.5 cm embedded in typical schist matrix. This material is very well-known, but not terrribly available on the market these days. I would guess this piece dates back several decades, and is a fine example of these beloved Garnets. It's not common to find crystals of Garnet measuring a full inch on matrix from any locality, let alone, sharp well-formed crystals on matrix. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#6825). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
