Item Description

The Sedalia Mine was a former copper-gold-silver producer, but it's best known for its Almandine crystals. This is actually a Dana locality, and has produced what are arguably the best known Garnets from Colorado. This piece features a good sized Almandine with fairly sharp textbook dodecahedral form and the classic color seen in the material. The Garnet has a pretty "patina" look to it from a thin covering of mica that accents the deep reddish-bronze color of the crystal itself. A few minor nicks keep it from being 100% perfect, but it's complete all the way around. This piece comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ).
