Item Description

Striking, intergrown, textbook sharp almandine garnet dodecahedrons are dramatically stacked and perched on the mica schist pedestal on this exceptionally aesthetic large 360-degree from this historic Austrian locale. The pristine opaque crystals, to 5.3 cm, have rich mottled wine-red color and high lustre. This is a classic and important locality for garnet dating back hundreds of years. The garnets are physically extracted from the enclosing schist and are lightly buffed to bring out the beautiful lustre and color. This superb specimen has outstanding display quality, as the base has been sawed. Every turn presents a strikingly different aspect to this classic. Valued at $1500-2000.
