Item Description

A textbook-perfect, very large and uncommon almandine garnet from Zimbabwe. The Karoi District is well-known gemmy blue euclase and topaz crystals and yellow-green heliodors, not almandine garnets. This essentially pristine floater crystal has astonishing flashes of cherry-red gemminess, symmetry, luster and sharpness. This rare garnet dates to the 1970s, as Southern Rhodesia officially became Zimbabwe in April, 1980. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. Howard started as a mineral dealer at age 13 in 1972, became a sophisticated dealer and died tragically at age 28 in 1987. His collection recently became available to us through his family. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!
