Item Description

Sharp, lustrous, reddish-brown almandine garnets to 4.7 cm (the striking crystal on the crest) are set on both sides of the sculptural, large mica schist matix on this impressive, classic and excellent specimen from the Ziller Valley of Austria. The textbook dodecahedrons have striking and beautiful, gemmy, wine-red areas under strong light and these areas are even visible under normal light. The modest bit of contacting and bruising are noted, but are certainly acceptable in the context of this specimen. Old-time, excellent material from the Howard Belsky Collection.
