Item Description

This is a beautiful display specimen from one of the most storied and well known districts in Colorado. The pegmatites near the Lake George area of Colorado have produced what most collectors and dealers consider to be the finest Amazonite specimens from the standpoint of superb color, top quality, wonderful display specimens and excellent associations. This particular specimen features several excellent quality, sharp, very well-formed, blocky, superb blue-green color Amazonite crystals measuring up to 3.1 cm long sitting on snow-white Albite (var: Cleavelandite) matrix. The underside of the specimen reveals a lone soft silvery colored prism of Smoky Quartz flaring out showing defined crystallization on both sides of the Albite. The color is excellent, and the main crystals are undamaged, while one of the smaller crystals is contacted where it was removed from the pocket wall. Perhaps the most important aspect of this specimen is the fact that it is NOT REPAIRED, which is not terribly common to see in Amazonite from Colorado on the market these days. Valued at $1,250. This specimen was collected nearly 40 years ago (September of 1980) by Dave Bergman at the R. A. Kosnar Claim near Lake George. Dave is a Colorado miner (formerly the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s) and the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar.
