Item Description

A VERY RARE and very fine older amazonite combination from the Pikes Peak area. The sharp, well-formed, 6.5 cm amazonite has classic beautiful turquoise-blue color and high luster. The rich and aesthetic coverage of two-generation fluorite octahedrons on one side of amazonite makes this an exceptional rarity. The striking well-placed octo is 2.2 cm. Lustrous, translucent, light green fluorite crystals with etched/frosted faces have a striking, preferential secondary overgrowth of rich grape-purple fluorite. UV lighting shows a UNIQUE bonus to the specimen. The preferential white coatings on some of the fluorites is APATITE, with yellowish-white fluorescence! Apatite is listed in MINDAT for Pikes Peak, but no examples are shown in the photo gallery. This aesthetic and possibly unique amazonite combination rarity is from the Kay Robertson Collection # 1217 and undoubtedly dates to the 1950s, with the low collection number. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). Fairly valued at $1250-1500. A MUST for the Colorado, locality or species collector.
