Item Description

This is a great example of these well-known and sought after specimens from the Dominican Republic. The popularity of Amber specimens (especially those with insect inclusions) has increased over the course of the better part of 30 years thanks to the Jurassic Park film franchise. This small cabinet is a very sculptural and three-dimensional piece which features several wonderfully well-preserved flying insects (possibly mosquitos or gnats) completely frozen inside, but the most intriguing aspect is that the front face of the specimens shows a beautifully detailed imprint of a deciduous leaf from an unknown species of plant life. It's incredibly rare to find MULTIPLE insect inclusions within a single piece of Amber, let alone a piece with a large, top-notch left imprint like this! You can search for a long time, and never find a piece quite like this one. I've handled many of these over the year, and this is the best leaf imprint I've seen in one of the insect-bearing Amber specimens from Sabana de la Mar. This material is always popular on the market, and even though its more of a fossil than a mineral, it's still a cool display piece of this well known material. It's a great specimen, best viewed under the microscope, and I'm sure I didn't capture everything in there. Valued at $900 retail.
