Amethyst

Item Description

This is a beautiful Amethyst gem from the famed Anahi Mine in Bolivia. This locality is the source of Ametrine, the natural bi-colored purple and yellow Quartz, but a large percentage of the deposit yields only Amethyst. This stone has a "Round" cut, but what really makes it special is the fact that it was concave or "quantum" faceting on the pavilion, which are little carved indentations that allow the stone to have much more life and brilliance than if it was traditional cutting. Quartz has a fairly low refractive index, but the special concave faceting on this gem really makes it sparkle. A beautiful eye-clean stone with a lovely purple hue that would make a fine center stone for a piece of jewelry, or you could match it up with an Amethyst crystal from this mine for a great "rough and cut" set.
